Surrounded by my own children and the children of my many friends and acquaintances, and since I am nothing but a big child at heart but have to take on the role of a pastor under the present circumstances, I invented the book series From the Children for the Pastor. This edition is somewhat strange and nontraditional despite its general title and the method of working used to make it, which I would say was uncomplicated and even primitive.I asked “big children” and “small children” alike to write a tale or a story for me, and then told them to illustrate it themselves. This is why both the first and the last editions will contain the collected stories by children that are sixty, thirty, and five years old. It goes without saying that the books themselves will vary greatly in terms of style, volume, design, and approach. At the same time, this is exactly what supplies the edition with a certain infantile joy that stems from the fact that we are actually all children, despite all the pronounced precociousness of children or the childish weak-mindedness of adults, no matter which large or small problems we encounter in life, regardless of the fact that many of us have already become parents or grandparents. This edition opens the Pastor’s Library for Children, whose formation will be an extended, unhurried process. And really, no one has given me any deadline or urged me toward completion. Like all the Pastor Zond Editions, this edition will appear in a small number of copies, prepared under domestic, familiar conditions, in a small, comfortable attic-room in an excellent house on Gleueler Strasse in Cologne. Everyone who has been there knows what I am talking about. Tomorrow’s date is August 1st, 1994. I dedicate this edition to this day, which will be a very important day in my life. Basically, in the family circle, it could be called From the Children for the Children.
